Kelly Kit (Kelly Klay

Kelly Kits - packaging

Look what we received in the mail.  It is our October Kelly kit it is way cool.  Kelly Kits encourage art play using a wide variety of creative tools & materials beyond what coloring books can offer. The Original Kelly Kit comes complete with one set of five unique activities that cover the five art disciplines: painting, drawing, sculpting, printmaking, & collage. Each kit contains all of the tools & materials needed for the activities, the user just needs access to a kitchen! To increase functionality for homeschooling parents, each activity includes an instruction card with an enrichment idea to adapt the art activity to a school lesson. Kelly Kits are designed to encourage creativity & teach! We received the October Kelly Kit, Kelly Klay, which included a packet of green sandy material, instructions, and a welcome letter.
The instructions were easy to follow and the kids were able to help with each of the steps, except boiling the water and pouring it into the mixture.
The result was what looks and feels like green play-doh.
The Kelly Kit instruction sheet also gives preschool curriculum ideas for ages 2 to 6 (such as using the dough to form letters and numbers) and elementary school curriculum for ages 6 to 10 (such as using the Kelly Klay to make land formations).    The other side of the instruction sheet contains education conversations about dough sculpture in this case as well as a masterpiece challenge.  The masterpiece challenge involves using the Kelly Klay, objects around your house, and your imagination to create a Krazy Kritter.
I like the idea of the Kelly Kit and how it helps to get kids excited about arts.  The crafts are simple enough that the child can easily be involved in most of the steps and can feel happy about creating something.  I wish the kit we tried had contained something more involved or even allowed us to make several Kelly Klays in different colors.  However, it did give us an opportunity to create something together and my kids  enjoyed both making the Kelly Klay and playing with it.Check them out Here.
